This fall, the Valley City Hi-Liners have been on a journey of adjusting to new standards while participating in the activities they love.

Archery teams from Stark-Billings, Burleigh and McLean counties were awarded first place in their age and bow style division at the North Dakota State 4-H Archery Championships held at the North Dakota 4-H Camp near Washburn.

With Kindred school moving to a temporary virtual learning due to the number of students and teachers isolating or quarantining in their school right now, they have also suspended all activities for at least two weeks. This change effects our homecoming game.

It was a quiet night at the Hi-Liner volleyball game. With the stands only occupied by family members, the Valley City girls faced off against the Sheyenne Mustangs in their third home game of the season. It was an intense game, but in the end the Hi-Liners took the loss to the Mustangs.

After having their first game canceled, Valley City Hi-Liner Football took to their home field for what they expected to be an uphill battle with one of the toughest teams in the state: Bismarck St. Mary’s. The Saints had started their season on August 28 by toppling the Devils Lake Firebirds 38-0.

Barnes County North took on Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page in Class B varsity volleyball this week. The game was intense, pushed to five sets after scoring went back and forth between the battling teams. 

With distancing in the bleachers and the student section dressed as cowboys, the Valley City Hi-Liner Volleyball team took on the Red River Roughriders on the first of September. 

The Valley City Hi-Liners competed in their second Cross Country Meet of the season, hosted by the Grand Forks Public Schools and held at Lincoln Drive Park and Riverside Parks. 

I grew up listening to Casey Kasem’s Weekly Top 40 music countdown. It was a different era where musical success wasn’t measured by downloads and clicks. Even to this day I can’t say I really understood how his Top 40 was compiled, but I was hip to the long-distance dedications.

Valley City hosted its first competition since March 13th of 2020. Derek Bear and Blake Triebold were the last to compete for the Hi-Liners at home before COVID and the first to compete at home upon our restart. On March 13th, Blake, Derek, and their robotics team dismantled NDSU in the HAC.

This weekend, Valley City Hi-Liners competed in their first Cross Country Meet of the season. The meet was hosted by the Fargo Public Schools and held at Mickelson Field and Oak Grove Park.
