Throwback Thursday: 1971 Eckelson Auction

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week submitted by our readers.

This photograph was provided by Wes Anderson, curator of the Barnes County Historical Society Museum.

Donelda Remmick, a native of Eckelson, said people gathered for an auction of school contents in 1971, the year after the school closed in 1970.

Remmick said the building was demolished the next year. Items sold at auction included desks, school annuals, music books, file cabinets, tables, chairs and boxes of miscellaneous items.

Today the site of the former Eckelson Public School building is marked with a sign, Remmick said,
