VCSU baseball splits with Dickinson
The Valley City State University baseball team split its double header with Dickinson State Friday, finishing the series at 2-2.
The Vikings lost the first game of the double header 1-0 in seven innings, and won the second 12-8 in nine innings.
The first game was pitchers dual, as the Vikings got another strong performance from Derek Zitzow, who allowed only four hits.
Defensively, the Vikings had three errors, including one in the sixth inning that allowed Dickinson outfielder Jacob Muir to reach base and later score the only run of the game.
VCSU finished with two hits offensively.
In the second game, the Vikings took an early lead and never let up, to win 12-8.The Vikings had two runs in the first inning, one in the third and one in the fourth to go up 7-0 early. Dickinson had two runs each in the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, but Valley City kept ahead with its own offense.
VCSU finished the game with 16 hits, including three each from Kyle Skinner and Scott Stephenson.
The Vikings play a home double header Wednesday against Northern State (S.D.) University. The games were rescheduled from today.

3-on-3 tournament this month
The VCSU basketball teams are sponsoring the Viking Shootout 3-on-3 basketball tournament April 22 at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
Tournaments are open for boys and girls in grades 3-12, as well as mens and womens open divisions. The cost is $70 per four-person team and all registration is due by April 17.
