In the afternoon on Thursday, July 7 Lt. David Swenson submitted his paperwork resigning from the Valley City Police Department. The men and women of the VCPD wish Lt. Swenson the best of luck moving forward.

The internal investigation regarding the possibility of violations of the VCPD Department Policy will continue until it is completed.

Valley City Police Lt. David Swenson has been placed on administrative leave while the Valley City Police Department conducts an internal investigation.

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson said in late June he was contacted by an individual and made aware that Swenson was possibly violating VCPD Department Policy.

As a result of the allegations, Swenson has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of the investigation, Thompson said.

Swenson was investigated by the VCPD last month for allegations that he was doubling up on hours, concurrently working as a Valley City Police officer and as the Barnes County Community Service Officer in 2015. The investigation found that Swenson was not and that he had not committed a crime.

Thompson said the current investigation is not related to the prior investigation.

Thompson said no further details will be released at this time.
