Barnes County emergency personnel responded to a call for a missing 78-year-old man at Sadek's Landing around 8:47 a.m. Monday morning.

The man was found deceased in his boat upon arrival, appearing to have suffered a heart attack around 6 a.m. that morning according to Don Fiebiger, Chief Deputy of the Barnes County Sheriff's Department.

Chief Deputy Fiebiger stated the gentleman had tried to dock his boat, but the rope caught around his arm.

He stated, "We think he just kind of fell in when he was docking his boat and it drifted because his shoe and hat were over there (near the dock) and the boat ended up drifting down the river a little bit."

The gentleman was known to travel alone and had health issues.

He had a cabin nearby.

Responding agencies included the Barnes County Sheriff's Department, the Valley City Fire Department, the Barnes County Ambulance, and local park rangers.
