The ice in the Youth Sports Complex has been replaced by a floor full of soap box derby cars.

The 23rd annual Dakota Soap Box Derby is planned for Saturday, June 2, in Valley City.

According to Wes King, who serves as the Dakota Soap Box Club’s president and co-director, this year’s race has 50 participants, which is up from the last few years.

Race day begins with a photo at 7 a.m., and then practice runs will be held on Central Avenue. At 9:30 a.m., opening ceremonies will take place in downtown Valley City.
