VCHS football cancelled
The Valley City High School football team will have to wait another week to start its season. Inclement weather Friday forced the Hi-Liners' season opener in Carrington to be cancelled. The Hi-Liners' season opener will now be 7 p.m. Friday at home against Dickinson Trinity.

VCHS Volleyball goes 1-5
The Valley City High School volleyball team opened its season with a 1-5 record at the Bismarck High-Century High invitational crossover tournament Friday and Saturday.
Friday the Hi-Liners lost 25-28, 25-15, 15-13 to Mandan, 25-18, 25-20, 13-15 to Minot, before beating Turtle Mountain 25-16, 25-15, 15-10.
Saturday the Hi-Liners lost 25-21, 26-28, 17-15 to Williston; 25-20, 25-17, 15-12 to Jamestown; and 25-20, 20-25, 17-15 to Bismarck St. Mary's.
The Hi-Liners opening the home season against Carrington 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

VCHS tennis loses opener
The Valley City High School tennis team lost 9-0 in its season opener to Fargo. No. 1 singles player Dustin Miller lost 6-0, 6-1. Ricky Paulson, No. 2 singles, lost 6-2, 6-0. Dalton Ondracek lost 6-2,6-4 at No. 3 singles. No. 4 singles player Wyatt Reinhart lost 7-5, 6-1. Brandon Miller lost 7-5, 7-6 (2) in No. 5 singles. Torrey Morehouse lost 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Dustin Miller/Paulson lost 6-3, 6-4; Reinhart/Brandon Miller lost 6-0, 6-2; and Ondracek/Morehouse lost 6-2, 6-4.

VCHS XC runs in JV meet
The Valley City High School boys and girls cross country teams started their season with a junior varsity meet in Jamestown Friday.
April Berntson won the 3K JV girls race with a time of 12:31 and was followed in by Barbara Zubrod, who finished in seventh at 13:16. Jame Ronning was the only other Hi-Liner in the top-20 with a time of 13:38, good enough for 17th. The girls team took third with 104 points.
Casey Englehard was the only member of the boys team to finish in the top-20, taking 14th with a time of 15:48 in the 4K.

August 23 Ladies Golf
Connie Maresh had the low score of 48 for the day and also the low net with 31.  She shared low net with Liz     Marthaler who also had a 31.  Chip ins were recorded by Nancy King and Sheryl Hanson.  Low putts went to Nancy King and Arlys Netland with 15.
Game of the day was "drawings" and winners were Judy Holmgren and Arlys Netland.
