Jan. 30 local digest: VCSU men ranked 17th in nation, MV boys hold ranking

Maple Valley boys maintain ranking
The Maple Valley boys basketball team held its ranking in the most recent North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Class B basketball poll released Tuesday.
The Raiders were ranked ninth for the second week in a row by the poll.
Over the weekend, they beat Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 72-27 in Page.
In the win, the Raiders had a hard time being stopped and scored 19 in the first quarter, 26 in the second, and 22 in the third to take a 67-23 lead heading into the final quarter.
Ethen Preston led Maple Valley with 21 points, Ty Smith had 16 and Jordan Haseleu had 14.
The Raiders play tonight at home tonight against Sargent Central.

BCN girls win weekend game
The Barnes County North girls narrowly beat Ellendale 35-34 at home Friday.
The game went back and forth as the Bison trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, but led 19-17 by halftime and had a 32-25 lead entering the fourth.
In the final quarter, the Bison were outscored 9-3, with their only points coming on a two-pointer by Lauren McMillan, who also had a free throw in the half.
BCN was led in scoring by SaraLi Peterson and Sydney Reimers, who had eight points each. McMillan had seven.

LMM girls lose to EK
The Litchville-Marion/Montpelier girls lost 58-29 to Edgeley/Kulm Saturday.
The Rebels fell behind as the result of an 18-point first quarter and trailed 31-15 at halftime.
Jacey Alber, Tasha Piehl and Tanys Ulmer led LMM with six points each.

VCSU climbs two spots in NAIA Poll
The Valley City State University mens basketball team moved up two spots in the latest NAIA Division II Mens Basketball Poll, released Tuesday.
The Vikings are now ranked 17th in the nation following an overtime win at Dickinson State last weekend.
The Vikings will be on the road against No. 7 Jamestown College Wednesday.
