The 2nd Annual Turkey Triathlon will be held at the Gaukler Family Wellness Center on November 21st at 6:30 p.m.
It is an event that encourages people to stay active during the winter season and justifies everyone spoiling themselves a little bit in celebration of the Thanksgiving. The event consists of a 1 mile run on the indoor track, a 5 mile biking portion in the fitness area, and a 275 meter swim in the Gaukler pool.
Spokeswoman Ali Keller and the staff of the Wellness Center put the event together last year and brought it back again to keep the new tradition going.
"Last year we organized it because we wanted to see more fitness events people could take part in and enjoy," Keller said. "We figured the holidays are a good time to do those because we also get out-of-towners, family members to participate and they are looking for something fun to do."
All participants are asked to be at the Wellness Center by 6:15 p.m. on the day to ensure that everyone is ready. Admission is $5 per participant or $10 for a two person team.
The event is sponsored by the Valley City Parks & Recreation and the Gaukler Family Wellness Center is thrilled to have the event for the second time.
If this kind of event wasn't enough to satisfy the participants looking for something to be a part of, Keller said there is another stress-relieving event taking place at the center the day after Thanksgiving.
"We are having a Full-Moon Meditation Yoga in our group fitness room," Keller said. "It's open to the community. It's free for members and $3 for non-members."
Starting at 8 p.m. it will be 60 minutes of relieving mind, body, and soul as there are some who believe the full moon can be a source for healing powers. This will also include essential oils, meditation, and techniques. People are encouraged to register at vcparks.com or check out the web page on Facebook.
For further information on both events, people can reach the Parks & Recreation/Guakler Center at 845-3294.
