According to Tod's mother, Jan Schmitt. Initially Tod, who turned 56 on Monday, was taken to CHI Mercy Health in Valley City but was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with his kidneys failing. Since then, Tod spent 10 days in an induced coma and has endured six surgeries and is still fighting an infection of unknown origin. He has, however, been taken off dialysis and his feeding tube has been removed. He remains in the hospital.
