Valley City Parks and Recreation will hold the ninth annual Ruckus at the Rec on Friday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Recreation Center gym.
"This is a free event safe for children to where costumes and have fun," said Diane Sommerfeld of Parks and Rec. “Ruckus at the Rec is an exciting variety of carnival games for all children ages pre-school through 6th grade to participate in with prizes for everyone."
Parents and grandparents are encouraged to join their children. Community and surrounding area businesses and organizations as well as interested individuals assist with the activities.
Games and prizes are provided by the Parks and Recreation office, but volunteers are needed to assist in running the activities.
"Each booth provided by the Parks and Recreation needs three to four volunteers so the more volunteers from the community, the more fun for the kids," Sommerfeld said. "Donations of pumpkins, candy, food coupons and any monetary amount is also appreciated if you are not able to volunteer for the evening."
Children and parents are encouraged to dress up in their costumes to add to the Halloween atmosphere. "This is a safe and exciting evening for the youth and families in and around the Valley City area," Sommerfeld said.
Donations will also be taken at the door for the Barnes County Food Pantry. The Valley City Lions will also be collecting used eye glasses with a drawing for Chamber Bucks at the end of the evening.
Volunteers and donations are needed to make this popular event possible. Those who can help should contact the Valley City Parks and Recreation office at (701) 845-3294.
