Pharmacist Amy Noeske at Mercy Hospital Pharmacy explains how to deal with the winter itch and other skin problems in this week's Your Health column.
"How can dry skin be managed?" she writes. "Firstly, short (3-5 minute) baths are important for people with dry skin. Baths should be taken only 2-3 times per week, and in tepid water which is no warmer than 90 degrees F. Moisturizers need to be generously applied to skin within 3 minutes of exiting the bath (or shower), to lock the moisture into the skin. Another way to help dry skin is to add humidity to the air. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water daily helps too."
