Valley City played host to the North Dakota state gymnastics meet last weekend at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
Dickenson took top honors in team events with Century's Wendy Perrin placing first in the all-around. In individual competition, Hi-Liner Rebekah Fisher had the team's only top-ten finish on the uneven parallel bars with a seventh-place finish.
"I'm Very, very proud of them." said Hi-Liner's head coach Dave Fisher. "Our future is pretty bright.
With only one senior, Sara Gilbertson – who competed after spraining an ankle just a week before the competition, and one junior, Fisher worked with a young team this year, and he saw them come a long way.
"They perservered all season long," Fisher said."We had a successful season and a successful meet. It was a good learning experience."
With two meets in two days, team competition on Friday and individuals on Saturday, his girls were worn out by the end, but all the other teams were in the same boat, according to Fisher.
With packed stands for both days of competition, Fisher was delighted with the support his team had from the community. Even members of the Valley City State University football team were on hand before the meet to help set up equipment.
"The total support of the community was overwhelming," said Fisher.
