The 24th annual North Dakota State Pinochle Tournament returns to Valley City Feb. 16 and 17 at the Valley City Eagles Aerie.
The event, sponsored by the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce, is designed as a weekend of fun and friendly competitive play.
Chamber Executive Vice President Dawn Riley said, “We encourage you to also bring some friends along with you who haven’t been here in a while.”
Chamber Office Administrator Kay Vinje said this year’s entry fee will be $50 per team or $25 per person. The deadline for signing up will be 5 p.m. Feb. 14, Vinje said.
Other major Valley City events planned include: the North Dakota Winter Show which runs March 5 – 10; Rally in the Valley/Community Days scheduled for June 15 and 16, and Crazy Days on July 24.
Said Riley, “We always want people to enjoy our annual Pinochle Tournament! We try to keep it fun for all, so in the spirit of competition, we ask that everyone play fair and not engage in unsportsmanlike tactics or conduct. The Eagles Club is now a nonsmoking facility. The bar will be open during the entire tournament, and lunch will be served for a separate fee. The Eagles Club will also have a dinner special and band on Saturday night. Finally, we have secured a tournament sponsor to cover the tournament expenses to allow for a 100 percent payout from the registration fees for the tourney! In addition, anyone not making the Championship round will be able to play in the Consolation Round on Sunday for free and we will pay out the top three places.”
Riley said, “We look forward to see you at the tournament! Feel free to contact us with any questions! We will not be mailing out “Jack “or “Queen” numbers in advance. If you provide us your email address on the registration form, we will certainly e-mail it to you. Otherwise, you will be given your card at registration Saturday morning.”
Vinje said considering next year’s tournament will be the 25th annual state tournament, plans are underway to make it a special event. “It will be a really big deal for Valley City,” Vinje said.
