The holiday season is well underway, and that means people are spending more time shopping. Dacotah Bank in Valley City hopes people in the area will support their local economy by buying their holiday gifts at stores in Valley City.
Dacotah Bank is teaming up with the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce again this year for their campaign to push people to shop locally during the holiday season.
The campaign, which is now called “12 Days of Christmas,” starts Dec. 6 and is held every business day thereafter leading up to Christmas.
Residents are encouraged to shop at stores in Valley City and bring in their receipts to the bank to register to win $50 in Chamber bucks. A drawing will be held each day during the campaign.
“We ask that the receipts be dated after the weekend of the open houses, after Nov. 11,” said Dalene Brock, personal banker and local marketing director at Dacotah Bank.
“We’re trying to help our local merchants during Christmas by trying to promote local shopping,” Brock said. “It’s just something we decided to do as a bank to support the community in a different way.”
Brock said by giving away $50 in Chamber bucks to 12 participants, they’re “awarding them a chance to win additional dollars to spend locally.”
“By giving them the Chamber dollars, it helps our local merchants too,” she said.
Brock said that new to the campaign this year is that residents don’t have to bring in a receipt to register; they can just stop by Dacotah Bank and register for the drawings.
Kay Vinje, office manger at the Chamber said, “this promotion and others are a nice way to encourage shoppers discover the many treasures — businesses and people — we have right here at home.”
