The Festival of Trees – a long-running fundraiser for the Mercy HealthCare Foundation – has been set for Nov. 24 at the Valley City Eagles Aerie, said Stephanie Mayfield, organizer of this year’s event.
Mayfield, until recently executive vice president of the Valley City Chamber of Commerce, said Wednesday this is the first time she has been involved in the fundraiser.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds for hospital capital expenses, such as equipment, that are not covered by normal operating revenues.
“It’s to ensure we have quality health care in Valley City and surrounding areas,” Mayfield said.
Mayfield said it will be “an evening of fellowship with a silent auction and a live auction.”
Traditionally, the “Festival of Trees” takes place the weekend after Thanksgiving. It is an elegant evening of twinkling Christmas lights and Christmas trees. Mayfield said an extensive hors d’oeuvres buffet will be served. There will be a silent auction of many donated items. The live auction will include at least 10 fully decorated Christmas trees, some wreaths and a travel package. The evening is put on completely by volunteers.
Also planned is entertainment by Lloyd Nelson on the piano.
Tickets will be sold for $15 each.
“All proceeds will go to the Mercy HealthCare Foundation,” Mayfield said.
The foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing support to Mercy Hospital with supplemental funding for capital and program needs essential to the hospital’s growth and development.
Said Mayfield, “With the support of individuals and area businesses, we have been able to help the community in various ways the past 16 years.”
Mayfield said, “It looks to be a beautiful evening. Usually we are out of town Thanksgiving week – this year we’ll be able to attend. I’m looking forward to it,” Mayfield said.
