State House and Senate candidates and candidates for the Barnes County Commission have all been invited to participate in a candidate forum Oct. 16 at the Valley City HAC Gymnasium, said Doug Anderson.
Anderson is a Chamber Board member, leads its legislative committee, and is marketing and communications manager for Valley City State University.
The candidate forum is being sponsored by the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce, and will take place starting at 7 p.m.
Candidates for District 24 Senate and House and candidates for the Barnes County Commission have been invited to participate.
Incumbent Commissioners John Froelich and Cindy Schwehr are the only people to file for their seats. No other commission seats are up for election, said Schwehr Friday. “I plan to be at the forum,” she said.
The moderator will be Michelle Wobbema, the current Chamber Board President. Running for the two state house seats are Sharon Buhr and Naomi Muscha, running as D-NPL candidates, and Dwight Kiefert and Myrene Peterson as Republican candidates.
Incumbent Reps. Ralph Metcalf and Phillip Mueller, both D-NPL, have decided not to seek re-election.
Running for the District 24 senate seat are incumbent Sen. Larry Robinson, the D-NPL endorsed candidate, and Keith Hovland as the Republican candidate.
All candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and explain why they are running for the position, respond to prepared questions from the moderator and if time allows questions from the audience, and provide closing comments.
Said Anderson, “We would like to invite the public to the event.”
The Chamber also sponsored a May 22 Candidate Forum in the Valley City HAC Gymnasium, moderated by then-Chamber president Keith Heuser.
All candidates for city commission and county commission were invited to participate in the May 22 forum.
