The Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals is hosting a Walk & Wag-a-Thon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chautauqua Park in Valley City. Registration opens at 10 a.m., and the first 50 to register will receive a free t-shirt. Paws will start moving along the walking trail at 11 a.m., rain or shine. There is a benefit for Mark Boom of Valley City on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Boomers Corner Keg. Benefit Poker Run at noon. Registration at 11 a.m. A silent auction will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Boomers Corner Keg. Powerplay DJ will also play music from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The street east of Boomers Corner Keg will be blocked off with a beer garden and the music happening outside. Mark is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer, and all funds raised will be used to help defray medical expenses associated with his treatments. An account has been set up at Dacotah Bank of Valley City for cash donations.

Litchville Community Museum’s brat and burger event will be held from 5-7 p.m. on the museum grounds. A free will offering will be taken, and there will be a drawing for the raffle prizes. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the community center up town.

Valley City Area Retired Teachers will meet at Sabirs at noon. Speaker will be David Schelkoph. Please bring donation for school supplies.

North Dakota Nurturing Program will host parenting classes for parents and their children 5-12 years of age from Aug. 28 to Dec. 11. Classes held every Tuesday, 5:30-8:15 p.m. at the Head Start Building (230 Viking Drive. SW, Valley City, ND). Call Bonnie Olson at 845-1108 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to register. Free dinner and childcare will be provided. Transportation assistance may be available

VCSU Music Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the Town & Country Club in Valley City. Two outstanding individuals will inducted into the Hall of Fame: William A. Lydell and Gloria Peterson (in memoriam). All VCSU alumni and friends of the university are invited to attend. A social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include reminiscences about their days at VCSU as well as the exceptional contributions they have both made to music during their careers. Tickets remain on sale through Sept. 3. Tickets will not be available at the door.

There will be a benefit for Tony Kramer of Valley City. Tony was diagnosed with stage 2 Oglioastocytoma cancer five days after getting married to his girlfriend of five years. He is currently undergoing daily radiation treatment. Please join us at Valley City Eagles Club on October 6t at 5 p.m. for a spaghetti feed followed by a silent auction and gun raffle drawing. Three guns will be raffled including a rifle, shotgun and and a 22.
