Shane Ost had plenty of successes as a member of the Valley City High School golf team, posting the top score at the 2010 Class B Region 1 tournament as he helped lead the Hi-Liners to the Class B state championship that year.
It's talent that will be coming back to Valley City.
Ost, a 2011 graduate of VCHS, signed a letter of intent Tuesday to attend Valley City State University and join the Viking golf team.
“We have watched Shane mature and grow on the golf course over the last six years,” VCSU co-head golf coach Rick Ross said in a release. “His experience and success in big tournaments with the Hi-Liners, on the Minnesota Junior PGA Tour, and against the elite golfers in the area at the Pine to Palm Tournament will provide him the ability to have an immediate impact. We are pleased to have Shane join us.”
Shane was a five year letter winner for the Valley City Hi-Liners while winning and placing in the top ten in several tournaments including the medalist honors at the Class “B” Region I Tournament in 2010, held at Dakota Winds Golf Course in Hankinson. He later finished top-10 at the state tournament and received All-State honors.
He also qualified for the Championship Flight at the prestigious “Pine to Palm” Golf Tournament in 2011.In 2010 to 2011, he was invited to play in the Minnesota Junior PGA Tour, and had several top-10 finishes on the tour.
“Valley City State University is excited to have a golfer of the quality of Shane commit to VCSU, said co-head golf coach Jamie Paurus. “His experience in big tournaments will lead the way to an easy transition to the college game.”
