Valley City’s Saturday Farmers Market opens for the season Saturday at Hirschberger Park, said Becky Huber, who is managing this year’s market with brother Arlen.
This marks the 33rd year the Saturday market has been operating.
The Hubers are taking over management of the market this season from Sharon Clancy.
Huber has been selling her fresh local vegetables at the market “since day one.”
Helping the Hubers operate the market this year are Margaret Stoltz and Candy and Mike Rasmussen.
“We need all the help we can get,” Huber said.
The market will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, with fresh local vegetables, fruits, meats, jams, jelly and baked goods expected to be sold at booths.
Valley City musician Joe DeMasi has signed up to entertain market visitors with his guitar strumming and singing the first two Saturdays of the season, Huber said.
Lemonade will be served at the market this season instead of coffee, and a free-will offering will be accepted for the beverage.
“We plan to keep it (the Saturday market) open through fall,” Huber said.
The market rule is all items sold must be from within 50 miles of Valley City.
