VCHS softball wins
The Valley City High School softball team got an early lead and never let up in an 8-3 win over Devils Lake Friday.
The team had his all through the order with Jenna Coghlan, Amanda Tangen, Danica Diegel and Jessica Deholm each getting two hits. Denholm also was one of three players, to have two runs batted in. Keely Fogarty allowed ten hits but only three runs in the complete game.
The Hi-Liners finish the regular season against Fargo Shanley at 4 p.m. today at the VCSU softball complex. The two-point game will decide third place in the Eastern Dakota Conference.
Jamestown College wins final DAC cup
Jamestown College is the winner of the final Dakota Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup for the 2011-12 academic year.
Jamestown compiled 42 points to win the award for the third time. Dickinson State placed second with 33.5 points with Valley City State third with 22.5 points and Mayville State fourth with ten points.
The Commissioner’s Cup is awarded to the member institution with the best overall record in conference competition.
Pettit named All-Region
Valley City State University third baseman Jane Pettitwas named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region first team.
Pettit started all 46 games for the Vikings in 2012. She had a career high and led the team in hitting with a .439 batting average. Pettit also led the team in runs scored (30), hits (58), doubles (13), home runs (5) and was tied for the lead in RBI with 30.
