With the Jan. 24 recall election less than a week away, Valley City residents are reminded that absentee ballots are still available at City Hall until Jan. 23 for those who wish to cast their vote early.
Eligible voters who live within city limits can both register to vote and pick up their absentee ballots at City Hall. Once the ballot is filled out and sealed, voters must remember to sign and date the outside of the yellow envelope to make their vote official.
Residents who want to do their civic duty the old fashioned way by casting a ballot in person will still be able to do so. The only polling station will be located at City Hall, as there are no precincts involved in the special election. Polls will be open on the 24th from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The special recall election will decide the city commission president (mayor) position, as well as one city commissioner position. Current Mayor Bob Werkhoven is being challenged by Dean Ross for the mayor seat, and current Commissioner Ken Evenson is up for recall against Duane (Dewey) Magnuson. Both terms will extend until June 2014.
