A pair of Valley City State University men’s basketball recruits have received even more postseason awards.
Milnor 6-foot-3-inch senior guard Briton Bussman, who became the Class B Senior Athlete of the Year on March 8, was also a finalist and finished second in voting for the North Dakota Mr. Basketball Award. Bussman’s latest honor came with First Team All-State distinction on March 24 that followed All-Region and All-District status.
Bussman led the Bison to a 23-2 record this season, in which both losses came to Class B State Champion Oak Grove. He averaged 28 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 assists and shot 57 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. Milnor won the State title in 2013.
Williston 6-foot-5-inch senior forward Jayden Ferguson made the All-Western Dakota Association Team, and on March 26 was named Second Team All-State in Class A. He averaged 23 points – which led the WDA – and seven rebounds this season, made 50 percent of his field goals and hit 44 percent of his threes.
Both Ferguson and Bussman have signed Letters of Intent to attend classes at VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings this fall. Valley City State posted a 14-14 record this season and took third in the North Star Athletic Association. The Vikings graduate one senior, guard Aaron Duske, from this year’s team.
