Educators Gather to Discuss Guns in School

Education officials voiced their opinions Tuesday about House Bill 1195 – legislation introduced by N.D. House District 24 Representative Dwight Kiefert that would allow certain personnel to carry a gun in schools – and the response was no.

Warrant Wednesday: Joseph Uffelman

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Joseph Allen Uffelman, 28, is wanted by the Barnes County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding warrant for failure of the 24/7 program. Uffelman was originally arrested for prohibited possession of a firearm, a class C misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; and simple domestic assault, a class B misdemeanor.

Uffelman is a white male with red hair and blue eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs 165 pounds.

Creative Therapy to Offer Addiction Counseling

Creative Therapy in Valley City has been approved to offer addiction counseling as of Feb. 1.

Owner Jennifer Eberle said Mental Health Counselor Mary Burchill, also a licensed addiction counselor, will be able to start adult outpatient chemical dependency services Feb. 1.

Former VC Man Walking with Lisbon Native Wife Across U.S.

Former Valley City man, David McDonald, is walking across the United States with his new wife, Natallie (Jones) McDonald, a Lisbon native. The pair began their journey in St. Augustine Beach, Fla. Thursday, Jan. 22. They married Monday along the way.

The McDonalds started their walk they call "1 Step at a Time" at the Atlantic Ocean, and intend to stay south, walking all the way to the Pacific Ocean in San Diego, Calif.

VCFD Recognizes Firefighters at Saturday Banquet

North Dakota District 24 Senator Larry Robinson was the keynote speaker at the Valley City Fire Department's annual recognition banquet Saturday.
Among those honored were assistant chief Daryl Stensland for 35 years of service; firefighter Jason Runge, five years; Lt. Scott Magnuson, 30 years; and Lt. Jeff Schlittenhardt, 30 years (pictured).

Ryan Metcalf was also honored at the Valley City Fire Department's annual banquet for five years of service. See his photo in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Hi–Lites Compete With Best

The Valley City High School Dance Squad took six medals in three categories during the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill state championships Friday and Saturday in Jamestown, even though they are the youngest Class A team in the state.
