Wire stolen from VC business

A large amount of copper wire was stolen from Hi-Line Electric Tuesday evening, said Amy Anderson, wife of Brad Anderson, who owns the business with Chad Zaun.

Thursday Anderson said the copper wire was valued at “less than $25,000, but it’s a lot.”

She added, “people who own copper wire have to be very careful.”
She said the business was broken into Tuesday evening.

“They covered the windows and even used our forklift” in order to steal the metal, Anderson said.

“They knew how to run the forklift,” Anderson said.

Mark McDonald, interim Valley City police chief, said Thursday the Hi-Line theft follows the theft of about $3,000 worth of wire stolen from a secured and fenced city-owned area in southwest Valley City over the weekend.

“Copper right now is a very hot commodity for thieves,” McDonald said.
“People do need to be careful. If they see anything suspicious, give us a call and we’ll check it out,” McDonald said.
