VC Babe Ruth loses in Steele
The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team lost both games of a double header in Steele Monday.
The team lost 10-6 in game 1 and 7-6 in game 2.
In the opener, Steele found a way to score runs in each of the first five innings, scoring on strong hitting despite a solid effort by Valley City’s defense.
“Today was a tough day for us.  It was probably our lowest error total for a game and we collected as many hits as Steele, so to come out on the down side of this game is not something we would have expected,” coach Lance Lukes said. “It just goes to show you that you need all aspects of your game to be on point to win these games with teams that you are closely matched with.”
Casey Englehard led Valley City with a 3-3 game at the plate.
In the second game, Valley City had a 2-0 lead but struggled with errors. Jesse Johnson finished the game 3-3 with a double and two runs batted in.
The team takes a break from district play with a home double header with Jamestown at 5 p.m. today at Charlie Brown Memorial Field.
