A name was omitted from a photo (“A black belt affair”) published in the May 4-6 edition of the Times-Record.

McBride, Pettit named to A.I.I. first team
Pitcher Katie McBride and third baseman Jane Pettit, both seniors for the Valley City State University softball team, were selected to the 1st Team Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) All Conference Team.
McBride was fourth in the A.I.I. with a 1.82 Earned Run Average, the lowest of any pitcher in the conference aside from those on Cal State San Marcos, the #2 team in the NAIA National Poll. McBride was first in the A.I.I. in innings pitched with 203.2, the next highest pitcher was 157 innings. She was also first in Batters Struck Out with 143.
As good as McBride was in the circle, Pettit was just as good at the plate. Pettit was ranked seventh in the A.I.I. in batting average hitting .439.
Pettit also ranked eighth in the A.I.I. in Slugging Percentage (.682) and tenth in Hits per Game (1.26).

VC tennis loses to Shanley
For the second straight match the Valley City tennis team was on the wrong end of a 5-4 match, losing at home to Fargo Shanley Tuesday.
"Its very fun as a coach to be this competitive every match," VCHS coach Matt Nielson said. "This has been the most competitive that a team that I've coached has ever been in the EDC. We are literally only four sets away from being the four seed. That’s awesome. We still have work to do – but I'm proud of where we are."
Nielson said the loss makes Thursday's match at Fargo South important. He said the winner will get the sixth seed in the EDC tournament, the loser will get the seventh seed.
