VCHS golf team takes 4th
The Valley City High School boys golf team took fourth place in a tournament with other Eastern Dakota Conference teams Tuesday at the Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead, Minn.
The Hi-Liners finished with a team score of 319, only eight strokes behind Red River. West Fargo won the meet with a score of 290.
Individually, Nick Jenson led the Hi-Liners with a score of 74, which finished him in a tie for seventh place.

VCHS tennis gets first win
The Valley City High School tennis team had plenty of close matches in a home meet with Wahpeton Tuesday, but found ways to get the 7-2 win over Wahpeton.
The Hi-Liners played what coach Matt Nielson called âthe most solid doubles of the season,â sweeping all three matches, but struggled in singles.
No. 1 singles player Kierstin Lorenz prevailed in a three-set match with Megan DeVillers.
âKierstin showed grit and determination,â Nielson said. âShe was getting frustrated with the âmoon ballâ tennis that her opponent threw at her. She stayed focused and patient and pulled through.â
The team also had singles wins from Clarissa Olson, Sara Gilbertson, and Arelle Krueger.

VCSU golf teams end season
The Valley City State University mens golf team finished its season with a 10th place finish at the NAIA National Qualifier at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott, Ariz.
Sunday, the Vikings played 36 holes, scoring a team score of 323 in the first round and scoring 316 in the second. Monday they shot a 316 giving them a three-round total of 955.
The tournament marks the end for seniors Taylor Henrickson and Ryan Mehus, who were part of the inaugural season when VCSU brought golf back as a varsity sport three years ago.
The Valley City State University womenâs golf team also finished its season at the AII qualifying tournament in Prescott.
The tournament consisted of a practice round on Saturday followed by two rounds of intense pressured filled golf. Mandi Bindas played her first competitive round of golf since suffering an ACL injury the first week of school.
âI thought this weekend was a real learning experience for us,â coach Ryan Bomstad said. âThis is the first time our team has traveled farther than 230 miles to compete. We were able to see where we are as a program and where we need to go to compete for national meets.â

VCHS softball wins
The Valley City High School softball team got a late-game win Tuesday in Devils Lake.
The Hi-Liners allowed a run in the bottom of the first, but took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. Devils Lake then tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the third and the game remained scoreless until a single by Dierra Diegel gave the Hi-Liners the lead in the top of the seventh.
Keely Fogarty threw a complete game for the Hi-Liners, allowing nine hits and striking out eight.
VCSU softball wins
The Valley City State University softball team beat Minnesota- Crookston in a double header at home Tuesday. The Vikings won 7-3 and 7-4.
