Weather Offers Chance to Chill Out

July 27, 2012

A break from an intense heat wave arrived in the area this week, and it looks to be hanging around for the weekend according to graphical forecast data from the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Friday’s low temperature will see the mercury sinking to 60 degrees with a 5 percent chance of rain and wind speeds at 10 mph or less. The wind speeds will remain in that range throughout the weekend.

Saturday morning will find Barnes County under mostly blue skies with a 10 percent chance of rain in the northeast half of the county and a 20 percent chance in the southwest as a thin weather system stretching from southern Canada to northern South Dakota will edge its way through eastern North Dakota.

Saturday night’s low will be 66, and chances for rain vary from 20 to 30 percent, with the likeliest opportunity for precipitation in the northern half of Barnes County.

Sunday will feel like familiar territory as the high will creep toward 90 in the morning.

Clouds will begin to move into the area bringing a 30 percent chance of rain to the eastern two-thirds of Barnes county and a 20 percent chance to the western third. Chances for rain in the region will increase to the east in Detroit Lakes and Bemidji, Minn., and decrease to the north through Devils Lake and Grand Forks.
