Watch for the signs - overnight parking a no-no in certain areas

November 3, 2011

Be on the lookout and don't leave your car downtown overnight - you could get slapped with a ticket and a tow.

It's that time of year again. The Valley City Police Department would like to remind residents that parking on the street overnight could get you a ticket. Residents should be on the lookout for red and white "No Parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. October thru March" signs in the downtown business district along Main St. and Central Ave., and in some school zones.
The areas are off limits for overnight parking to keep the streets free for winter snow removal.
The police department issued 50 warnings on Friday, October 28, to vehicles in violation of the ordinance, but no tickets were written.
With winter just around the corner, officers may have to get tougher on violators. A citation for parking in a posted area carries a fine of $10 and possible impound of the vehicle.
