Planning is underway for the 2015 Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals Walk & Wag-A-Thon, now set for Aug. 30 at Valley City's Chautauqua Park, said Pamela Erickson, secretary/treasurer of the organization.

On Tuesday Erickson said the SVFA has been doing the Walk & Wag-A-Thon “for five or six years – for awhile now.”

Money raised at the annual event will be used to support the SVFA's animals in foster care. Registration for the event will begin at 1 p.m., and the walk will begin at 1:30 p.m., rain or shine.

Prizes will be awarded for the most pledges collected in various divisions, including team, individual adult, and individual child, aged 15 and younger. A major prize for this year's event is a 32-inch television set donated by BEK Communications, said Kathleen Martin, one of the SVFA volunteers.

Free t-shirts will be given to the first 50 participants turning in $25 or more in pledges. Sizes will be limited, and groups must turn in a minimum of $25 per person to receive shirts for all team members.
Goodie bags will be available for all who participate and lunch will be provided for a free-will donation.

Participants will be able to sign up for door prizes.

Other activities planned this year include pet portraits, trail trivia, a “Bark Bash Bone Hunt,” and pet tricks.

All attendees will be required to clean up after their animals, and bags will be available to help at the registration table.
Animals participating in the walk must be current on required vaccinations, including rabies and distemper. Bordatella or kennel cough is a recommended vaccination for dogs participating.
