The votes are in - Werkhoven, Magnuson unofficial winners

January 25, 2012

An unofficial tally of votes Tuesday night showed Bob Werkhoven keeping his title as mayor by a 268 vote margin, and Duane (Dewey) Magnuson winning the commissioner seat by a margin of 73 votes.

Werkhoven garnered 56.7% of the vote to Dean Ross's 43.3%, while Magnuson had 51.8% of total votes to Ken Evenson's 48.2%.

The polls at City Hall closed at 7 p.m., and just 4 hours later, the unofficial winners were declared by the election canvassing board. Election results will not become official until all ballots are reviewed by the election canvassing board, which is set to meet Jan. 30. Werkhoven and Magnuson will take office after the canvassing board's official approval of the election results.

Two thousand twenty votes were cast in the election, with 660 ballots coming in the form of absentee voting, according to City Auditor Avis Richter.

First of all, I want to say congratulations to Mayor Werkhoven & Commissioner Magnuson. But if everyone wants the community to come together and heal, to start new, everyone needs to move on with a positive attitude. It is over and we must all pull together to do this. The people have spoken, yes, its true. Now other people need to please stop posting the negative and move to the positive. Once again, congratulations to Mayor Werkhoven & Commissioner Magnuson.

Who was it who said: "You can fool 43% of the people some of the time, but you can't fool 100% of the people all the time"
.. even when you have a brother who thinks he controls the media; ....even when you outspend those of common sense by 5 to 1. Get the message? We, the people, have spoken.

I am proud of our community that showed up for the polls. The majority has been heard and now we can move on and heal without all the nonsense.

I second that motion.
