Vivian Lerud, 91, Valley City, ND died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Vivian Dorothy Johnson was born February 5, 1923 on a farm near Amenia, ND to Gust and Lois (Bly) Johnson. At the age of nine, she moved with her parents to a farm near Hunter, ND. She attended the rural Bell School and later graduated from high school in Hunter. She worked for area farm families until going to Minneapolis, MN, where she worked for the Munsingwear Co. After returning to Hunter, she married Arnold O. Lerud on December 11, 1943 at Perley, MN. They lived at Perley for two years before moving to a farm near Gardner, ND, where they lived until moving to a farm near Hunter. In 1971, they moved back to Gardner and farmed before returning to Hunter in 1980. Arnold died in 1982. Vivian moved to Fargo in 2001 and to Valley City in 2010.
Through the years, Vivian was a member of the Hunter Homemakers Club, TOPS, Pod & Petal Garden Club, 4-H Leader, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagle’s and active at First Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School Teacher and in the Ladies Aid. She loved playing cards and enjoyed summers at the lake.
She is survived by a son, Russell (Jacquie), Shoreview, MN; three daughters, Barbara (Robert) Schroeder, Valley City, ND, Beverly (James) Mooney, Hillsboro, ND, Janna (Rickie) Fatland, Wahpeton, ND; two brothers, Douglas (Joan) Johnson, Fargo, Garry (Diane) Johnson, West Fargo, ND; three sisters, Doris Biel, Kasson, MN, Elin Johnson, Fargo, ND, Shirley (William) Reed, Masonville, IA; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold and three brothers, Robert, Mauritz and Kenneth.
Visitation: Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, and one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Monday at 11 AM in First Lutheran Church, Hunter, ND.
Burial: Hunter Cemetery.
