Viking Track & Field Wins 3 Events at Al Cassel Relays

(VCSU Athletics) Viking sophomore Malik Jackson took first at 4:23.47 in the Men’s 1,500m Run at Saturday’s Al Cassel Relays in Valley City.

Valley City State track and field won three events and took second place in four more in Saturday's Al Cassel Relays in Valley City.

Viking sophomore Malik Jackson took first at 4:23.47 in the 1,500m Run, and senior Wayne Engelhard second at 4:24.32.

Freshman Josh Avila won the 3,000m Run at 10:09.05. Freshman Alex Askerooth took third at 10:44.31.

Senior Jordan Aus took home the Javelin title with a personal-best throw of 51.30 meters (168 feet, 3.68 inches).

Senior Philip Reuer took second in both the 100m Dash (11.31) and 200m Dash (22.77).

Freshman Niklas Ernst took fifth in the 200m at 23.68 and sixth in the 400m Hurdles at 1:01.45, Summer Clayton sixth at 23.85.

Sophomore Misael Herrera came fifth in the 1,500m at 4:36.12.

Senior Richard Wright took third in the 5,000m at 16:52.66.

Sophomore Jenna Coghlan took second in Javelin with a throw of 35.10 meters (115 feet, 1.89 inches) to become the top American finisher, second behind Nakia Thorpe of Saskatoon, Canada.

Sophomore thrower Jessica Meland finished third at 44.80 meters (146 feet, 11.78 inches) in the Hammer Throw, and fourth at 11.56 meters (37 feet, 11.12 inches) in the Shot Put.

Junior Monica Madavi took sixth at 20:55.25 in the 5,000m.

The Vikings next enter Saturday’s Ron Masanz Invite at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
