Viking Track and Field Produced 13 All-Time Performances at Feb. 1's Cobber Duels

February 22, 2014

Valley City State's men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed in the Cobber Duels at Concordia College on Feb. 1, during which both the men and women managed 13 all-time indoor performance list-qualifying marks.

Leading the way for the women were freshmen Alicia VanSweringen, Kate Roscoe, and Jenna Coghlan. VanSweringen's performance in the 60-meter high hurdles set a new school record, and she also ran a personal best in the 200-meter that moved her up to fourth all-time in the event. Roscoe and Coghlan had personal record-setting days in the weight throw and now rank a respective fifth and sixth all-time.

The men also managed several all-time performances, the foremost of which from from junior Richard Langdeaux and freshman Austin Albrecht in the men’s mile. Langdeaux found himself in seventh with Albrecht close behind in eighth. They now rank second and third all-time for the men’s indoor mile. Langdeaux also ran the 3,000-meter run and found himself with a fifth-place finish on the day.

For the VCSU sprints group, the youth movement is truly starting to emerge as three freshmen and one sophomore improved upon their already-great performances from two weeks prior. The 400-meter dash saw several great performances: the top runner on the day was sophomore Malik Jackson who ran himself a personal record time of 53.21, followed closely by freshmen Niklas Ernst who ran a 53.67. Both youngsters currently rank fourth and fifth on the all-time list for the indoor 400-meter.

Freshmen Randy Hoang and Summer Clayton produced solid times in the 200-meter dash, and both are now ranked seventh and eighth respectively all-time. Rounding out the list of all-time performances was a group effort as the VCSU men’s 4x200-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 1:37.89, just three seconds shy of the school record.
