Viking Softball Chasing North Star Crown

April 28, 2014

(VCSU Athletics) Valley City State senior right-hander Samantha Nalley (left) pitched a complete game and allowed only six hits and a run while striking out three batters in Saturday’s 5-1 home win over Dakota State.

Valley City State softball’s 5-1 and 10-6 Saturday home sweep of Dakota State brought them two wins closer to their first conference championship since 1990, the season in which the Vikings won their fifth straight championship.

The Vikings stand atop the North Star Athletic Association with a 10-2 conference record and a 21-19 overall mark, just above University of Jamestown’s 10-4 North Star record. Valley City State’s remaining games are Sunday’s 1 p.m-and-3 p.m. home doubleheader against Dakota State, and Monday against Mayville State. Jamestown faces Presentation College on Sunday.
