Viking Golfers Make Top 10 at Jamestown Open

Viking golf opened the season Wednesday with a solid showing at the University of Jamestown Open on the 6,637-yard, Par-72 Hillcrest Golf Course.

Four Vikings placed in the Top 10, led by Haley Christofferson, who shot a 90 for sixth place in the women's division. Alyssa Tait carded a 101 to finish 11th.

For the Viking men, nine golfers fielded two teams. Shane Ost, Ben Sorenson and Beau Diegel all shot a 76 to tie for 8th. Team 1 finished in a tie for 4th with a 309 total, and Team 2 took 6th with a 310 total. All nine Viking men shot between 76 and 80. The top six men's teams were separated by just 11 shots.

Minnesota State-Fergus Falls took the meet with a 299. Their top golfer Jared Cowden took medalist honors with a 71.

Valley City State plays next at the Mystic Open on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan.
