Letter from Dave and June Schettler Windom, Minn. On Sunday, July 20, we were on I94E headed home to southwestern Minnesota after attending a family reunion in northwestern Montana. Just west of Valley City, we blew a belt on our car. We had a replacement belt and were in the process of replacing it while several motorists passed by with the exception of one. Mark Nygard and his wife of Edinburg, N.D. stopped to give us a hand. He helped with the new belt, and then offered to follow us to be sure things worked. We didn’t get far before the idler pulley seized and the second belt busted. Luckily they were following along behind us and offered to give us a ride into town to see if we could get parts. We didn’t want to trouble them, so we called for a wrecker to tow our car to a repair shop. While waiting for the wrecker, the Nygards returned with a new idler pulley, and then left again to find another replacement belt. It wasn’t long and they were back with a belt and Mark helped to put the belt on. We offered to pay for their time, gas, and the replacement parts, but he wouldn’t accept any payment. His wife mentioned that he is always doing things like that, and that he has a big heart! All he wanted for payment was for us to help someone in need. His wife commented that the Lord works in misterious ways, and that afternoon, they were our Godsend. Anyone lucky enough to know this couple is doubly blessed to have them as caring members of your community. We were so very fortunate that they happened to come along. I’m sure they hadn’t planned to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon running errands for complete strangers in need. There are still many good people in this world and the Nygards are living proof of that.
