The Saturday Farmers Market held in Valley City on July 5 proved to be a success, according to vendors and market co-manager, Sharon Clancy.
There had been some question if the area could support both a Saturday Farmer’s Market and also those held on Mondays and Thursdays. The market held on July 5 showed the interest is there.
“It was a good first effort,” said Candy Rasmussen of the Valley City Farmers Market held on the Fourth Street Southeast Greenway on July 5.  Rasmussen is a market vendor whose farm is east of Valley City.
Greens of many kinds, beets, rhubarb, peas, Kohlrabi, jams, jelly, preserves of various kinds, a few eggs, baked goods and original landscape and portrait art were among the items for sale at the market
“More than 35 customers found us at the Greenway site and many of them are regulars from the Monday-Thursday markets at the Elks parking lot,” commented market co-manager, Sharon Clancy.
The highlight of the market was the busking preformed by Joe DeMasi and his clown, Michelle DeMasi. This is a new feature at the Saturday Market.
Any type of family entertainment is welcomed, according to Clancy.
“If you are a musician, clown, magician, balloon artist, or thespian, come try your hand. There are certain techniques performers use to work the crowd and Joe has agreed  to advise others who wish to be buskers. It is a matter of selling yourself rather than a head of cauliflower,” Clancy explained.
More vendors are needed, and there is a great deal of interest in locally produced food. The next Saturday market will be July 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Monday-Thursday market will begin on July 14 at 4 pm at the old Elks parking lot.
Contact Sharon Clancy, Mary Wager or Joe DeMasi for more information.
