Members of the Bridge City Cruisers turned out in such numbers at a recent car show in Medora, they received the traveling trophy for having the largest number of collector vehicles present.
The 31st Annual Car Show was held in Medora on June 20 and 21.
According to Marvin Bloom of Bridge City Cruisers, the Pioneer Auto Club from Bismarck – Mandan won the award for the last six consecutive years.
“It was very competitive,” Bloom said.
The Bridge City Cruisers owned 18 of the 128 registered vehicles. Bloom said that number was the highest recorded for the last several years.
“We've never had that many here,” Bloom said. “At the same event five years ago, we had 11 members.”
The car show was special to Bloom for another reason as well. Two of the people providing entertainment during the show were Bloom's grandsons, Sam and Jake Steen, ages 11 and 13 respectively, Fergus Fall, Minn. The boys juggled at the show. Their mother, Tammy Steen, accompanied was also present.
Several local members received individual trophies at the show. First place winners, Bloom said, receive their trophy when they drive across the stage at the Medora Musical.
The Bridge City Cruisers attend many local celebrations and car shows each year, although gas prices are affecting travel plans for some car clubs.
“Now with the price of gas, it's hard to attract car clubs from any distance,” Bloom said.
Bloom said the traveling trophy and individual trophies will be displayed in the Barnes County Historical Museum.
The following members attended the car show: Clay Adams – 1970 Dodge Charger, Dale Adams – 1963 Chevy Corvette convertible, Scott Anderson – 1963 Chevy Belair Station Wagon, Earl Behm – 1957 Ford Retractable Hardtop (1st place), Marvin Bloom – 1954 Buick Riviera Hardtop (1st place), Jeffrey Bloom – 1954 Chevy two-door Sedan, Hank Bruns – 1933 Buick four-door Sedan (1st place), Steve Hoss – 2006 Chevy SSR Roadster, Cheryl Johnson – 1959 Nash Rambler Custom, Terry Johnson – 1965 Chevy Chevelle (3rd place), Ron Olstad – 1990 Buick Reatta, Larry E. Sayler – 1979 Chevy Camaro, Kelly Tabor – 1966 Ford Mustang, Kody Tabor – 1974 Honda motorcycle, Donnie Tahran – 1929 Chevy (2nd place), Kerry Trenda – 1994 Chevy Corvette, Ricky Velure – 1968 Dodge Charger, Rindy Velure – 1993 Chevy Camaro. The first place winners' vehicles owned by Behm, Bloom, and Bruns will be displayed next year in the winner's circle, which is in the auditorium.. This year Kelly Tabor's Ford Mustang was in the winner's circle.
The Bridge City Cruisers have about 100 members and have met as an organized club for 10 years. The group meets the first Friday of each month for a meeting and potluck meal. Bloom said the club also organizes two cruises per month to area towns.
