Lucky lady meets with good Samaritans

Everything came together just right for a lucky Valley City woman having what appeared to be a heart attack.
Just before noon at the corner of Second Avenue and Central, Bank Forward personal banker Jill Vandrovec saw a car pull over and a middle-aged woman fall half out of the open door. She ran into KOVC radio station and asked someone to call 911.
KOVC Sales Manager Kerry Johnson and her husband Duane, who is part-owner of Lerud-Johnson Funeral Home, rushed out. Duane pulled the woman from the car and stabilized her head while Kerry administered CPR.
“She had her keys clutched in her hand and I couldn't find a pulse, so I started working on her,” Kerry said.
As Kerry was performing CPR, Father Tim Johnson of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Oriska happened to pass by. Father Johnson anointed the woman with the Sacrament for the Sick.
By this time, two passing journalists attracted by the activity arrived on the scene as well.
Kerry performed CPR until the ambulance arrived and Sgt. Pat Howe of the Valley City Police Department used an automatic external defibrillator to start her heart.     Mercy Hospital Emergency Room Supervisor Alana Wendel confirmed Wednesday that the woman was  stable and had been transferred to a Fargo hospital for further care.
