Letter from Sharon Clancy Valley City, N.D. The opinion column by Dwight Grotberg, the former Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, suggests he hasn't learned very much after North Dakotans rejected him by a giant margin in his run for the U.S. Senate. Mr. Grotberg seems to think that federal budget deficits are fine. He excuses the fiscal policy of George W. Bush by making excuses for the president's decision to fight a war without an end and charging it to future generations. He dismisses global warming. He accuses the government of increasing the price of oil because of regulations. Mr. Grotberg could use a course in economics and could benefit by trying to re-discover the common sense he must have been taught growing up. His partisan, mean-spirited, ill-conceived rant hardly contributes to thoughtful political dialogue in this country. Maybe that's why North Dakotans so solemnly rejected him in his bid for the U.S. Senate. So now instead of public service, he is a short-sighted complainer. I guess it takes all kinds!
