A lifeguard does her job on Tuesday as she watches over the capacity crowd of swimmers (250) in the local swimming pool. Molly Willson, cashier at the pool, said it probably could be attributed to the fact that Tuesday was the warmest day so far for swimmers this season at 93 degrees. The VC Parks & Rec office and fitness center will be closed on the Fourth of July, and there are no summer rec activities. Regular Fitness Center hours resume Saturday and Sunday. Northern exposure

Erosion from the discharge of a Valley City sewage lagoon has exposed this fuel pipeline on David Nelson’s property along the Kathryn Road. The pipeline transports fuel. The size of the pipe and the depth of the erosion can be determined by noting the yardstick (stuck in the snow at the left side of the pipeline) and the bright yellow, don’t-dig-warning sign at the upper right of the picture.
