Winter Show concert drunks are big problem |

Nichole Mosolf Jamestown, N.D. Quite a lot of people went to the Winter Show in Valley City on March 7 expecting to enjoy the concert that evening. Some of us brought our minor children also and decided to get there early enough to get good spots in front of the stage so that the children could enjoy the show. We got our desired spots and had to stand there from the time the doors opened so that we would not lose them. The downfall: when the show started the drunks were awful and ruined the show for all ages that were not there to drink. These intoxicated people were getting extremely out of hand and violent at points within the show. There were fights and minors drinking at this event, but nothing was done by the Barnes County Sheriff staff that were at this performance! Instead, when told about the incidents, nothing was done except we were told if we don’t like it we can move up on the bleachers! We paid the same prices and were there in these spots before any of these blasted drunks, so why should we have to move? If the Winter Show Board feels that the only way to have a good time is with alcohol then they should separate the building, including the floor level, right down the center so those of us that want to be on the floor but not drink or fight with the drunks to keep our spots through all of their pushing, punching, spilling of drinks, and other immature nonsense could very well do so without the fear of being injured or violated. Also, if they would do something like this, they will have a better handle on the countless minors being served alcohol within their facility. What kind of message are you board members trying to send? Alcohol rules? I don’t approve of the underage drinking taking place there as those CHILDREN are most likely to be involved in some kind of crime, for example, vehicle accidents or rapes! Also, I don’t approve of the treatment that others have to put up with at your event because you have no control of your necessary drunks in order to make money! You would most likely make more money if you would section off a drinking only section so that the non-drinkers can enjoy the show, as well as have more control of minors being served. You would need to show proof that you are 21 years of age in order to be in that drinking section, which would be a smart preventative measure. Get a clue, Winter Show Board members! Not everyone needs to have a drink in order to have fun, but since you obviously have to include your drunks in order to make money or enjoy the events at your facility then I think you should re-evaluate your family morals! What are you teaching our families? That they cannot bring children to an event unless they plan on sitting in poor view seats? Furthermore, what are those pathetic drunks going to remember about your show other than how drunk they got? I have been coming to this every year and recently started to bring my children with as they will most likely be able to say I got to see that before a drunk will, as they will most likely not be able to recall the evening! Now, I am not saying you should not have your money-making drunks, but I am saying take into consideration that you would also make even more money if the non-drinkers would not be forced to sit elsewhere due to your desired drunks! The last I checked, the Winter Show was to be a family affair, so make it that way! Section off a drinking section so that everyone else doesn’t have to cater to the drunks’ intolerant behavior. Thank you.
