A lifeguard does her job on Tuesday as she watches over the capacity crowd of swimmers (250) in the local swimming pool. Molly Willson, cashier at the pool, said it probably could be attributed to the fact that Tuesday was the warmest day so far for swimmers this season at 93 degrees. The VC Parks & Rec office and fitness center will be closed on the Fourth of July, and there are no summer rec activities. Regular Fitness Center hours resume Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday, 11 March 2008

By Steve Browne
Valley City Times-Record

The jury in a civil lawsuit against Barnes County and former jailer Kevin Schudar took less than one hour to reach a verdict and awarded the plaintiff no damages.
Of 19 questions on the verdict form given to the jury, jurors answered only two.
On the question of whether Barnes County was at fault in the supervision of Schudar, the jury answered no.
On the question of whether the plaintiff, Michele Grager, consented to sexual conduct with Schudar, the jury answered yes.
Michele Grager, a former inmate of the Barnes County jail, brought the suit against Schudar, for assault, battery, deliberate infliction of emotional distress and violation of her civil rights, and against Barnes County for negligence in their supervision of Schudar.
