Letter from Ken Royse Bismarck, N.D. North Dakota water interests will be receiving significant federal funding---to the extent of $67.89 millioin--- this year for municipal, rural, and industrial water infrastructure construction and development. The funding comes through the recently passed Consolidated Appropriations Act. This large federal appropriation did not appear from out of thin air or without effort. It represents the aggressive efforts and good work of our Sen. Byron Dorgan in his role as Chairman of the Energy and Water Subcommittee on Appropriations. Sen. Dorgan has used his senior position in Washington and in the Senate in a manner which benefits all of North Dakota. Projects scheduled to receive direct benefit from this appropriation include the Southwest Pipeline Project, the South Central Regional Water District, the North Central Water Consortium, the Northwest Area Water Supply Project, the four tribal governments of our State, and many other projects. Sen. Dorgan, thank you for your efforts. Completing North Dakota’s water infrastructure is essential for quality of life and economic growth. Not withstanding the views of National Geographic, North Dakota is thriving and vibrant. We are enthusiastic about our future. A cornerstone for that enthusiasm is a water infrastructure to provide adequate water supplies and good quality water. Your support for good clean and dependable water supplies for all of North Dakota and we want you to know your accomplishment in this matter is noted and appreciated by us.
