GOP support of corrupt WSI is shameful
Thursday, 07 February 2008
Letter from Dan Neer
Bismarck, N.D.
I don’t write letters to the editor too often, but I feel a need to now.
I’m an injured worker and think the way our Republican-controlled government has handled the Workforce Safety and Insurance issue is pathetic. They are treating it like a hot potato and in some instances like it’s not even a problem.
    It’s no surprise, however.
Secret meetings between high ranking WSI officials, Republican legislators and Republican Party operatives have recently been disclosed. Some meetings took place at the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce. This is an outrage. Is it appropriate that these high ranking officials are having back room meetings with leaders of the North Dakota Republican Party? Is it appropriate that the North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is helping to steer the WSI ship? It goes to show how incestuous the situation really is.
Also, Republican legislators killed many bills to fix the negative situation at WSI this last session. And, Republican Gov. John Hoeven didn’t even walk down the hall during the session to weigh in on the issue. I question his leadership.
I traditionally haven’t favored a political party. However, the way North Dakota Republicans have supported this corruption in government is a shame. WSI is full of cronyism, secrecy and political favoritism.
More top WSI leaders need to go. The agency’s mission needs to be restored. The corruption needs to end once and for all. It seems the only way it will happen is at the ballot box.
