A quartet from Jamestown is working to prove that music and laughter actually are “Cheaper Than Therapy.” That’s the name of the women’s group who will appear at this year’s North Dakota Winter Show. This group provides songs and lots of fun and will start the day at 10 a.m. at the Winter Show Country Hoedown Day on Tuesday, March 4, at the National Guard Armory. They have been singin' and jokin' their way across North Dakota for the past 10 years. They were the 2001 winners of the People's Choice Award in the Bismarck-based KFYR Radio's Home Grown Talent competition. They are a registered quartet of Sweet Adelines International, and have a combined acappela experience of more than 75 years. They perform with the Acappela Xpress Women's Show Chorus from Fargo, and have had the opportunity to participate in regional and international competitions with that group. They also performed last summer in Valley City at Music in the Park. Cheaper Than Therapy is high energy and fun-loving. They perform for store openings and closings, birthday and anniversary parties, community celebrations, and just about any social event you can think of. They’ll sing for food, car wash tickets, and even cash, or if you see them together somewhere, they'll sing just because you asked them. They love acappela harmony, and show a lot of personality and spontaneity in their performances The Country Hoedown Day is sponsored by the NDWS Women’s Division. Admission is $5 for the entire day of entertainment (or a season event pass). There will be other entertainment all day long until 5 p.m., and at 11:45 a.m. Norm Erber of Oriska will cater a chuck wagon lunch that has proven to be a big hit the past two years. The other entertainment at the hoedown includes: The Yodeling Cowgirl Kristi Goldade, Rodney Nelson, the cowboy poet and humorist, and the XIT Girls from Glendive, Mont. They are a tribute band to all styles of music, including music that influenced their parents and the war years of the ‘40s and the ‘50s.
