By Sandy Hansen Valley City Preparations are almost complete for the sixth annual Barnes County Relay for Life to raise funds for the American Cancer Society to use toward cancer research, education, advocacy and service. This signature event will take place June 26-27 at the Valley City State University’s Lokken Field. The 15-hour team event to fight cancer kicks off at 6 p.m. June 26, with a special cancer survivors’ reception. These honored guests and their caregivers walk the first “Victory Lap” before the teams step in to walk through the night. Cancer survivors and their families who are interested in participating in Relay for Life are encouraged to call Survivorship Chair Sandy Hansen at home at (701) 845-1191 or at work at (701) 845-4390 for more information about the event and special activities for cancer survivors, and to register for the reception and Victory Lap. Talk to those who have been at our past five Relays — it’s an uplifting experience survivors will want to take part in! Special invitations have been sent to our survivor participants from the past years and those who would like to join in are asked to call to be included on that list.
Hansen is the Barnes County Relay for Life Survivorship Chair.
