Enderlin/Maple Valley continued its run through Region 1 baseball with two wins over Central Cass on Monday, 2-1, 4-2.
With the two wins, the Falcons move to 6-0 in the region and 15-3-1 overall. Central Cass falls to 2-3 in region play.
“I expected us to be part of the (the region title race),” EMV coach Brian Midthun said of his preseason expectations. “But I did not expect us to start 6-0. The kids are playing very well right now.
“The key for us has to be pitching,” he said. “We’re just not walking kids.”
Through 19 games, the Falcons have walked just 40 batters while striking out 132.
On Monday, it was Karl Bartholomay and Zach Lautt taking the hill for the Falcons, turning in back-to-back stellar performances.
Bartholomay went the distance in the opening 2-1 win, striking out seven, walking one and giving up five hits and the one run. Dylan Wadeson was the star at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Lautt picked up the win in game two, giving up just three hits while striking out eight and walking three. Kyle Langland homered and drove in two runs, finishing the game 3-for-3. It was Langland’s third home run of the season.
The Falcons are in action again on Thursday when they host LaMoure-Litchville-Marion for a doubleheader, the first game at 5 p.m. counts towards region play. On Saturday, the Falcons play a special road game, traveling to the Metrodome. Midthun said they plan to go down and watch Friday’s Twins game, before facing Northern Cass at 9 a.m on Saturday. The first game will count towards region standings.
